Heather Tamadartaza, Practicum

Hi, my name is Heather, and I am an MSW student at the University of Kentucky. Before graduate school, I worked with survivors of sexual violence, many of whom were navigating PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I also taught literacy at a male prison, which taught me how to walk alongside people experiencing shame, anger, loss, and isolation. These experiences, along with my work in both community and private mental health, taught me the importance of creating a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental relationship as the foundation for growth.
My therapy style is curious, attentive, and grounded. I believe that within the right therapeutic relationship, everyone can process trauma, gain insight, and move toward a life that aligns with their values. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic theory, but I I view therapy as a collaborative process and will work with you to find the tools and approaches that best meet your needs.
